Mohali is the 18th district of Punjab, India, adjacent to Chandigarh. It is located west of Chandigarh, Rupnagar district at the north and Fategarh Sahib and Patiala in the south. The fast urban growth and attractions of the city has made visitors from locals and foreign lands praise the majestic Gardens of Mohali.
Below are some popular gardens to visit in Mohali:
Pinjore Garden
Pinjore Gardens is also called the Yadavindra Gardens. It is one of the most popular resorts that lie at the foothills of the Shiwalik ranges. Pinjore is a religious and ancient historical place located 20 kilometers from Chandigarh and 14 kms from Panchkula. Pinjore houses a Japanese garden, mini zoo, plant nursery, guest houses, picnic lawns and the beautiful Mughal Gardens.
Pinjore has been associated with the five Pandava brothers of the Mahabharatha epic.
People believed that the Pandavas stayed in this place during their exile. Pinjore nowadays bears some images of the past.
Baisakhi or spring festival is held at the Yadavindra Gardens in April. Moreover, programs for the Mango Festival are arranged in June and July. The gardens have sheltered walks with a cool atmosphere. Fountains are switched on and lights brighten up the place at night during weekends. The doorway end structure is like a disc of an open-air theater. The outer wall is stiff and has all around dieter pavilions that house the zoo. The entire garden is surrounded with arched balconies, fountains, watercourse, flowerbeds, terraces, limpid pools and monumental gateways.
The seven terraces of the garden has a magical descending effect and the green Himalayas rises up that sheer over the walls of the white buildings of Kasauli hill station. Its watercourse showcases a never-ending bubbling music from terrace to terrace.
The garden was designed by architect Nawab Fadai Khan, the foster brother of Emperor Aurangzeb. The garden was built on a classical Charbagh pattern with a central water way, Sheesh Mahal or the palace of glass, Rang Mahal and Jal Mahal (the palace of water). Pinjore Garden was restored by Maharaja Yadavindra Singh of Patiala.
Rose Garden
Rose Garden is one of the largest gardens in Asia with thousands of rose species. It was named after the former president of India, Zakir Hussain. The garden started last 1967 under the guidance of Dr. M.S. Randhawa, Chandigarh’s first Chief Commissioner.
The 30 acre of land contains more than 17,000 plants with 1,600 roses and 50,000 rose bushes. Some of its varieties are hybrid and very rare. It also consists of medicinal trees like the harar, bel, bahera, and yellow gulmohar. The rose garden is a popular venue for the annual rose festival which is celebrated with more than 20,000 visitors. It is held during the end of February or beginning of March. There are contests, competitions, stalls and cultural shows that delight tourists.
Rock Garden
Rock Garden is a splendid work of sculpture in Sector 1 of Chandigarh. The forty acres of land is located between the Capitol complex and Sukhna Lake. The foundation was held by Nek Chand, the road inspector of Chandigarh engineering department.
This garden is very unique because of its art objects made by urban and industrial waste. It uses discarded fluorescent tubes, broken chinaware, auto parts, mudguards, handle bars, broken glass bangles and building clays, coal and waste. The discarded materials was use to create sculptures of soldiers, palaces, temples, women, monkeys and village life.
The Rock garden showcases an open-air exhibition hall and is separated by tunnels, turns, twists and gateways. It is also enhanced with pools, waterfalls and a theater. The garden was run by the Rock Garden Society and even appeared on the Indian stamp in 1983.
The gardens of Mohali can truly be appreciated by visiting, walking through it and studying its meaning for global concerns.

Having your own window sill herb garden can add color and fragrance to any home. There is an abundance of reasons why people might prefer to have a window sill herb garden as opposed to one that grows outside. One of those reasons is that by having their herb garden indoors, they don’t have to deal with the elements of weather and can grow them all year long.
While you can grow almost any type of herbal plant on a windowsill herb garden, there are some that are more suited to this method than others. Plants like oregano are ideal because they are compact in size and have a truly wonderful flavor. Rosemary and basil are also a great fit for your indoor garden. Some herbs will repel fungus, such as the rosemary, and others simply have a wonderful aroma that can fill your home any time of the year.
These herbal plants will invariably do best on windowsills that face south or southeast, since, for northern hemisphere locations, that is the direction of greatest sunlight.
Most plants prefer maximum sunlight for growth and health and herbal plants are no different. Herbal plants prefer at least five hours of sunlight per day. Also, remember to keep them from enduring drafts, especially during the cooler winter months.
While you can certainly start your herb garden from seedlings, purchasing the proper containers that are about 6 to 12 inches deep in which to plant them and watch them grow, is a good way to start. You also have the option to buy herbal garden kits. These window sill herb garden kits come complete with the containers, the plants (usually already sprouting or with seed planted within the soil), and instructions on the different varieties of herbs and how to care for them.
While it’s fairly easy to care for these plants, you do need to be aware of their gestation periods as well as the ideal times to prune their leaves for drying, storing, or cooking. Some plants will also overtake others if you don’t tend to them and prune them back on a regular basis. You want your window sill herb garden to look as though it belongs there in the windowsill, so there is some measure of attention that they will require from you.
Be careful about the amount of water you give your herbal plants. They don’t do well in damp soil, so water sparingly, but don’t leave them without water, either. If you purchase a kit that has the plants already in bloom, don’t rush to clip the leaves. Allow them time to acclimate to their new environment. Also, if you live in a location, such as an apartment complex in a city, and don’t have access to good sunlight in any window, you can purchase artificial light. Most herbal plants will do just fine under this kind of light, but it’s a good idea to check with a nursery or the manufacturer to be certain.
A window sill herb garden is a great way to spend your free time and if you’re an avid cook, you understand that there is no substitute for having fresh spices and herbs at your disposal. Having your own herb garden sitting on your windowsill will inspire new and wonderful creations in your kitchen, as well as fill your home with the warm and inviting fragrance of some of the world’s favorite plants.
Jeff Stone is a long time lover of herbs and horticulture who has been growing his own for over 30 years. The following guidelines pertain to plants recently transplanted into the garden. Most plants should have a label listing its intended zone. Before purchasing plants find out exactly which zone you live in and purchase plants hardy enough for your zone.
Pruning is done primarily for the following reasons: Promote flowering Promote higher fruit yield Improve the health of trees, shrubs and plants Improve aesthetics / appearance Control growth Maintain a desired shape Removal of dead, damaged, diseased, and infested limbs. Pinch off spent blossoms as they die to keep the plants looking their best and to help promote more flowers. When winter arrives you will need to prepare your garden, this will minimize the cold damage to the plant and ensure the plants will survive in the spring. It will also give the plants protection from northerly winds. Weather or seasonal changes, may have an effect on plants and they will need to adapt to survive unsympathetic conditions through a progression which is called dormancy. Fertilizing plants is a great way to keep your plants healthy is doesn’t matter if you are in temperate areas you should still fertilize them even though they will grow throughout the fall and winter.
The arrival of warmer temperatures and longer days cause the plants to wake up naturally from their winter dormancy and help insure gardening success. Bare root plants are easy to handle.
The soil should not appear clumpy or clay-like. Fertilizer should also be added to the soil at this point. Make sure the area you are planting has good soil drainage. Do not plant in areas where the soil stays constantly damp.
Many homeowners often find a tree, shrub or plant that just isn’t right for a particular location and decide to transplant it to a different location. When you are transplanting shrubs, plants or trees it is very important to realize that great care needs to be taken and understanding on how to care for an established plant of tree when transplanting it to a different location, sometimes the plant or tree might go into “shock”. The art of training the bonsai tree has been enjoyed for ages, and can make for quite the enjoyable and rewarding hobby.
After planting your new plant or transplanting your plant here are some points you should remember.
1. After htransplanting a plant make sure you keep the plant watered a lot.2. If you have planted plants in a pot make sure they have considerable drainage.3. Don’t over water your plants4. Don’t underwater your plants5. It is a good idea to mix fertilizer when watering. 6. Always Place the plant in a protected, shady location and water thoroughly.
Once your plants begin to blossom you will need to check your plants or trees for Japanese Beatles. Japanese Beatles will eat all the leaves from your plants, if this happens the tree or plant will die.
In conclusion, if you take of your plants or trees they will grow and flourish.

A variety of programs and services already exist for abused victims to treat and prevent domestic violence. Since 1964, more than 1800 transitional housing shelters for abused women have been established in the United States. Initially designed to simply provide a safe place for victims and their children, shelters now provide a wide range of programs. At shelters, victims of abuse may receive legal assistance, counseling for themselves and their children, referral to other treatment programs (substance abuse programs), and additional advocacy services. In 1994 Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act, which authorized more than 0 million in federal funds for state and local programs to combat domestic violence. One federal program was established by the 1987 Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act. Among other things, this act established adult education programs, provided emergency homelessness prevention funds, and created a number of transitional housing programs. These government programs have made the lives of many homeless and abused women more tolerable, but there is still great need from churches and other Christian groups to provide additional sources of help. While the government does provide some services, most of the help for the homeless, including abused women, comes from the private sector, principally from churches that operate shelters, and distribute clothing and other essentials. Studies find that many factors such as economic, interpersonal, cultural, and social, prevent victims from leaving violent relationships. But those victims who do seek help from community services often find that agencies are overwhelmed and limited in their resources. One way churches can help abused women obtain transitional housing is to either open a transitional housing shelter or to provide transitional housing in the homes of its members.
Opening a transitional housing shelter may be complicated by various state laws or it can be as simple as providing rooms in the homes of Christian families in the church membership. If several families within a church are interested in providing a temporary room for a victim of domestic violence, then they can come together and form a net work of safe haven shelters for those victims, such as the Go Fish Ministries idea of a Safe Haven program, which isdesigned for helping women and children who need assistance getting out of abusive relationships. This program seeks to help women and children stay out of the abusive relationship by raising self esteem through education, inspiration, and modification of physical circumstances. It attempts to educate women to the options and possibilities of seeking a higher education, or resume preparation for those who do not choose to go further in their education and need to reenter the work force. It inspires women with godly principles of faith and lifestyle examples. It modifies their physical circumstances by encouraging the victim to remove herself from the abusive relationship in order to stop enabling the abuser to continue the abusive behavior. When available, rooms are provided in the homes of Christian families for women and their children in a non-disclosed location for temporary transitional housing shelters until other arrangements can be made when there is imminent danger. Women are required to keep locations secret from friends and family, or any other person not directly involved with the program, due to the risks involved in leaving an abusive relationship. Physical circumstances are also modified by providing food, clothing, and self-esteem building makeovers when necessary or requested. Donations of time, money, food, shelter, and clothing are solicited from church members for these purposes. Reputable reading material is made available for self-counsel, while recommendations are made for those wishing to seek professional counseling or legal services. Support groups consisting of women who are seeking to remove themselves from abusive relationships and mentors who have successfully removed themselves from abusive relationships are also provided.
Opening an actual transitional housing shelter may be a bit more complicated than this church run program. Check out any state and federal laws that may be related to running a shelter. The laws of all 50 U.S. states provide that domestic violence is a crime. These laws have made it easier for victims to obtain protective or restraining court orders that prohibit offenders from having contact with them at the shelters or anywhere else. Also, laws in most states allow police officers to arrest people suspected of committing domestic violence without the victim filing charges. Shelter staff may want to encourage victims to file charges. Zoning and building code laws should also be checked out to see whether the home(s) chosen or to be built would have any restrictions.
After these things are squared away, converting a home into a shelter is not that difficult. You probably need at least a 3 or 4 bedroom home with at least two baths. You should have no more than two bedrooms per bathroom, so an addition bathroom facility may need to be installed. Each room should have at least two twin beds or bunk beds, so that a mother can sleep near her children. Larger rooms may have 3 or 4 small beds or two bunk beds. There should be one room per family when possible as generally a family needs its privacy and space. A mother and three children might stay in one room, while another mother with two kids stays in the other.
You need one room designated for the live in house guardian, who will oversee the program for the house. The live in guardian probably should not share a bathroom with the clients, as well. That guardian should be well trained, preferably a female counselor or minister, in order to provide immediate services to victims coming in. A small library of helpful books, videos, and pamphlets should also be installed somewhere in the shared quarters of the home, possibly a bookshelf in the living area. You may also want to provide additional female volunteers to come in and give counseling and legal advice, help with planning and cooking meals, washing linens, and giving personal make-overs, etc. The women who come in to the program should be expected to help with the daily chores and wash their and their children's own clothes. The shelter home, especially the shared living areas, should be child safe, with no medications, hazardous materials, or breakables in low and accessible places, etc. The home should also have a good security system and police should be aware of the potential need for extra services in the area.
Most shelters would also do well to have a private garden for growing vegetables and flowers, as gardening is both therapeutic for the victims and helpful to the home if providing some food stuffs. A small prayer garden with flowers and a fish pond are also quite therapeutic to victims. Feeding the fish, planting flowers, and weeding are all chores the children can participate in. A house pet that is child friendly is also a good therapeutic tool for the kids. Feeding and playing with a cat or dog is a good distraction for kids exposed to violence, though the pet should be safeguarded from children who might abuse them. Children should never be left alone with a pet. Victims should generally be limited to a 30-60 day stay at the home or until they can find the necessary more permanent housing they need to get on with their lives.
Though opening a transitional housing shelter may seem difficult, it can be a very rewarding experience for those called to minister to abused victims of domestic violence. Transitional housing provides not only a safe place to stay, but a welcoming and therapeutic home for families to heal in. When churches and Christian organizations provide these resources, it says to the victims that they are not alone and that the church cares about them. Many of these victims have been told by church members in the past that they should stay in abusive relationships, but when these services are provided, they no longer have to suffer in silence. Church members who care should seek to open transitional housing shelters for their own abused church members and others who are abused in their communities. It's a very worthy endeavor.

Seven Secrets Your Vet Won't Tell You
©2008 Kimberly Hartfield
If you're frustrated because you've been spending a fortune buying pet products that sometimes don't even work, then here are some home remedies and suggestions that may be helpful in these days of hard times and high gas prices. As a rescuer and breeder for several years, I have learned a few tricks of the trade that your local veterinarian probably won't tell you. Most veterinarians won't tell you these secrets because they'd rather sell you their high dollar specialty products. But for those of us who love dogs and cats and have multiple household pets, those high dollar products may not be an option.
One of the first things I learned is that all pet food that claims to be nutritionally complete is not necessarily nutritionally complete. Most actively growing dogs and lactating bitches need at least 27% protein in their diet to adequately support their needs. The higher the fat content the better. Any brand can be used if it has at least this much protein, though some of the name brands may contain a higher quality protein. Some dog foods use chicken products such as the feet, beak, and feathers, along with "road kill" products.
A great nutritional supplement is a mixture of 1 pack of lemonade mix, 3 or 4 Tablespoons powdered or grated garlic, 2 cups of some type of oil (preferably olive or canola), and finely crushed egg shells. The lemonade powder provides a high concentration of vitamin C, the garlic is a natural wormer and flea repellent, the oil provides extra fat in the diet, and the egg shells provide extra calcium. Used bacon grease can also be used for the fat and is a natural wormer. Give your dog(s) about 2 tablespoons of this supplement mixed with their meal when that extra nutrition is needed. I used this home remedy for a dog with hip dysplasia and she was walking normally after just a few days on this supplement. It's great for lactating bitches, and growing puppies, too.
Dogs also need to be bathed regularly to stay comfortable during the summer months especially. High dollar dog shampoos can be used for this purpose but why pay more than you have to. (Dawn or Ajax) antibacterial dish washing liquid is great to bathe dogs in and has flea and tick repellent properties. Just make sure to use the orange antibacterial formula. Other formulas do not provide the same protection from fleas and ticks.
Another trick of the trade is the use of old fashioned powdered garden sulfur as a flea, tick, and mange dip for dogs and cats. It's what they used in the "old days." It works better than the newer permethrin based dips, which provide little protection. Dip at least once a month for the best protection using about 1 cup of powder for a large container of water. (a small child's pool works great)
Lime dust is another good old fashioned remedy as a lawn supplement to help rid your yard and garden areas of these unwanted pests. Be sure to dust heavily around dog houses and much used areas.
Chlorine bleach is a great disinfectant for yard and kennel areas when used in a yard and garden type sprayer.
Some (Heartguard) horse wormers use the same ingredients as the dog and cat wormers and is much more cost effective. Just put a small amount on your fingertip and let the dog or puppy lick it off.
These home remedies and suggestions are not guaranteed to work as suggested and the products named are not intended for the purposes stated. Strong caution is recommended when trying any unconventional methods with your beloved family pets. If you have any questions about trying these or other unconventional methods, seek the advice of your pet's veterinarian.

The most important thing to realize, when planning on gardening, is that it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of your time. In order to have a healthy looking garden, you must commit to it. This is not something you can do for this week and just let it go next week. A healthy garden will improve the overall appearance of your home.
One of the basics to a good garden is mulching. Mulching is simply putting a layer of certain material on your plants. There are many reasons why this technique is effective, but the materials you place over it can be bark chips, grass clippings or even straws. If you apply this layer over your plants you reduce the number of weeds will grow in that surrounding. You also trap the soil moisture for a longer period of time.
The soil your plants have also make a difference in the overall appearance of your garden. You want soft soil that will crumble easily in your hands. If your soil does not do that, you can mix it with several ingredients that will aid in the process of achieving that, at your local garden center. Some of the materials you can mix in with the soil to obtain that texture is sulfur, fertilizer or even sand, depending on the type of soil you have now.
You should water your garden during the morning hours, as this is the best time to do so. When you water your plants during the afternoon, there is a higher percentage of water that will be evaporated, than when you do it in the morning. When you water them in the morning you also allow the plants to have plenty of water to get through the high heats of the day.
Weeds can cause a problem in any garden, but they can quickly be eliminated by simply using vinegar. When you apply this to the weeds, make sure that it only lands on the weeds and not on your pants or grass. You can use a paint brush to apply the vinegar to the weeds or even a spray bottle, to spray it on there.
It is very important that you research the flowers you will be planting, before you do it. You want to study the proper way to take care of such flowers. Make sure you understand what is needed to allow those flowers to blossom, and the best seasons to plant them in.
These are the top gardening tips which may help you. You can have a green, healthy looking garden but it will require a lot of your time. If you enjoy this as a past time, then you are well on your way to having a good looking garden.

The cherries flush from March to mid-May, depending on the climate. The big cherry spots in this garden are at Cherry Esplanade, Cherry Walk and in many other places in the Garden.
Walter V. Cranford opened the Cranford Rose Garden in 1928. He was a construction engineer and denoted ,000 to BBG for a beautiful rose garden. Harold Caparn and Montague Free designed it. There are almost 1400 species of roses including old golden roses, wild species, grand floras, floribundas, polyanthus, hybrid perpetual, ramblers, and miniature roses, with over 5000 bushes of them. The foundation of Shakespeare Garden was laid in 1925 from the donation of Henry C. Folger, founder of Folger Shakespeare Library. This garden contains more than 80 plants, which has been mentioned in William Shakespeare poems and plays.
The first Japanese garden to be produced in American territory was BBG's Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden. It was opened in 1915 with a cost of 000.The garden is a flux of the antediluvian hill and pond fashion and the innovative promenade garden style, in which certain natural landscapes divulge along the rambling paths. It covers an area of 3 acres containing hills, a pond, a waterfall, and an island, all created artificially.

As a bonsai gardener you need tools created specifically for trimming, pruning, and maintaining bonsai trees. There is a huge assortment of tools on the market geared toward bonsai cultivation, but at the outset you just need some basic equipment. Japanese-made tools are the best quality tools you can buy, and are made from a higher grade of steel than tools from China.
A pair of high-quality shears should be your first purchase. Bonsai shears have large handles that make them easy to manipulate and sharp blades for pruning leaves, branches, roots, and pretty much anything else you need to trim.A smaller pair of scissors is also essential. Long-handled scissors allow you to reach further into your bonsai tree’s foliage to trim away twigs and shoots near the trunk. These bud scissors are the perfect tool for snipping stray buds, leaves, and shoots.A concave cutter is a must, and is mainly used for removing branches. Unlike regular shears, concave cutters cut cleanly through branches or part of a tree trunk leaving a smooth, slightly concave cut. This wound will heal quickly and leave little if any scarring on the trunk. Most bonsai experts like to have a knob or spherical cutter. This tool will help you cut any bits of stubby wood or knobs from the trunk and branches without harming the bark.Leaf trimmers or pruners come in handy when pruning dense foliage or defoliating your bonsai before dormancy or repotting. These are spring-loaded and have extremely sharp tips.Wire cutters are another must. Bonsai wire cutters are smaller than regular wire cutters and are designed to remove the wires you’ll use to shape your tree without damaging the bonsai in the process.A good pair of pliers is necessary to bend and squeeze the wire on a tree into place. Ordinary pliers are fine. You will want a root rake for use during repotting. This is a multi-pronged tool that allows you to comb through tangled roots and weed out the dead ones before you repot your bonsai. (Some people use chopsticks for this purpose!).A small Japanese saw is the best tool to use when cutting off larger branches. It is not meant for branch pruning or root trimming. Most beginning bonsai enthusiasts start with just the tools they need and then add to their collection as they become more adept at shaping, pruning, and trimming their creations. If you are starting from scratch, purchasing a bonsai kit might be the most economical approach to take.
It is absolutely critical that you keep your tools clean and sharpened. If you use rusted or blunt tools on a bonsai tree, it will be harder to work with the tree, and dirty tools can spread plant disease.
To sterilize your bonsai tools, remove dirt and debris with a damp cloth. Be sure to use soapy water to get rid of any sap on your tools, as it will cause them to rust. There are specially made cleaning oils, available at garden centers, to help remove stains and lubricate your tools.

After you have decided that you would like to plant your first herb garden you might be trying to figure out where to start. You will need to decide where you would like to plant your herb garden. You can grow an indoor herb garden as well as an outdoor garden. Picking which herbs you would like to grow will be necessary. Location for the garden and type of herb will need to correlate. Planting an herb that likes the direct sun in a shady location will not result in a successful garden.
Because it is your first herb garden it might be in your best interest to start out small. Pick only one or two herbs that have similar requirements to grow. Once you have had success with those two then you can add more into the garden. Also keep in mind that each herb plant yields a considerable amount of food so you do not want to overplant anything or you might end up with too much to use before it goes bad.
Once you have decided on a location and the herbs you would like to grow it is time to get started. Pay careful attention to the requirements noted on each of the packages for your herbs. Plant each herb according to the directions into your new herb garden. Pay special attention to the germination time so you can begin to watch for sprouts. In no time at all you will have fresh herbs in your garden that you can season your favorite meals with.
How Do I Store Items From My Herb Garden
The best way to store herbs that you have picked fresh from your garden is to dry them. Drying herbs is relatively easy. Once you have picked the herbs you want to store make sure to thoroughly wash them and let the water dry off. Once they are free of the excess moisture you will want to fasten the stems together with some string. Place your prepared herbs into a paper bag. You will need a location where you hang the herbs inside for a few weeks until the drying process is complete.
After you remove the herbs crumble them up into pieces. Spread them out on a pan and cover them with a cloth to dry out a little further. When complete all you need to do is add your herbs to airtight jars to keep them preserved for use during the colder months when fresh herbs are not readily available from your herb garden.

A garden tour of garden writer Doug Green’s garden landscaping project. www.landscaping-ideas-for-gardening.com Shots of the plant trial area as well as main cottage garden landscaping area in its very early stages. This video was shot as a history piece by this award winning garden author. The trick with most of this kind of landscaping is a mix of colors and plants to bloom all season long. Doug explains this in other videos on his video channel. In short form though, there is no such thing as a bad cottage gardening landscape design. Cottage gardening started as a poor man’s garden – with a jumble of plants of all shapes and colors. it was adopted by the gentry and “improved” with blended colors and all one-color gardens. My reality though is if I have a mix of plants that bloom at different times, and get all the garden occupied, it’s going to be an authentic cottage garden and spectacular. It may not be fashionable, but the perennial flowers there will more than carry their own in this landscape design. Given I’m an organic gardener, you may also notice a few holes in the leaves here and there. This doesn’t bother me and the plants recover nicely with little imput on my part. The trial gardens have a wide mix of roses, lilies, perennials, baby shrubs, not to mention perennials and annual flowers. I test different plants to see how they grow and how hardy they are so i can write about them in my gardening newsletter. www.simplegiftsfarm.com i also answer gardening …

More and more we are hearing about how the American population is overweight and sedentary. This is particularly heartbreaking when talking about children. So in an effort to slim down waist lines in America, more and more people are getting back to basics with great tasting natural foods and that is making herb gardens more popular than ever.
Herbs gardens have a number of advantages. The first is that they are quite attractive. There are a number of different ways that you can grow herbs gardens, and all of them are amazingly easy. You can have a container garden or one that you plant in the ground. Most herb gardens are quite pretty, with some plants being tall and wispy such as Dill, while some are low and bushy, such as Rosemary. It’s all a matter of what you prefer.
Another advantage of herbs gardens is that they are a healthy hobby in more way than one. Growing a garden has been shown in research to be a healthy way to get some exercise. Imagine hauling around a couple of water cans or pushing around a wheelbarrow of potting mix over varying terrain. Then you can imagine the workout you’d get, just from tending your garden. Growing herbs gardens typically requires one to spend time outdoors. While most people know that too much sun is bad, not enough sun is bad too. With our indoor lifestyles, we’ve developed a culture with a vitamin D deficiency, which is absorbed from sunlight and is necessary for strong bones, particularly in post menopausal women. There is another way that spending time in the sunshine in your herb garden can benefit your health. Many people suffer from a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. It is a seasonal form of depression and occurs when days get shorter and people don’t get enough sunlight to keep the chemicals serotonin and melatonin regulated in the body.
Herbs gardens are really a great thing for those trying to lose weight. Most nutrition experts will recommend that those trying to shed a few pounds replace the excess sugar, salt, fats, and carbohydrates with lots of fresh flavor from herbs. In fact, the first couple of weeks of a low carb diet advocates making salads that include the rich flavors of herbs, as many herbs not only enhance the flavors of foods, but they are also cleansing to the body, such as parsley. Those with a sweet tooth can find relief from those sugar cravings by eating fresh fruits with any variety of mint. Just imagine fresh raspberries with some chocolate mint. It’s a delicious way to have desert without the guilt.
No matter what your reasons for wanting one, herb gardens are a great addition to any home and any diet. They can uplift your spirit and slim down your waste and give you a great hobby too. Growing a garden is easy to do and is an inexpensive way to add variety to your recipes. Try it and you’ll see.

In recent times, LED grow lights are becoming very popular for hydroponic gardening due to various advantages. One of the major benefits of this lighting system is low cost of maintenance. The technology of LED grow lights is to emit only the color spectrum required for the plant photosynthesis. Hence, they consume less amount of electricity in comparison to the traditional lighting system and other grow lights. On an average, a LED grow light consumes less than 5 watts of power for operation.
In LED grow lights, wide-spectrum red light and narrow-spectrum blue light of specific wavelengths are configured in a particular manner.
The red spectrum supplements natural sun rays, whereas the blue spectrum makes an ideal light for the plant growth. Thus, LED grow lights provide ideal light conditions for the better growth of all types of plants and/or crops. In addition, this lighting system contains no toxic mercury, which is used in fluorescent lights and metallic vapor.
There are several models of LED lights, each suitable for various types of plants and their successive stages. For example, some LED grow lights are designed for vegetative growth, whereas some are specially configured to promote flowering and/or blooming. Speaking about the installation, LED grow lights should be hanged or mounted in hydroponic gardens, as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. While using LED grow lights, the height should be maintained in such a way that it covers the maximum plantation area.
Another advantage of LED grow lights is the less production of heat. With minimum heat production, water requirement also reduces due to less evaporation. The problem of high temperature root damage and plant dehydration is thus solved by using LED grow lights. Hence, with this lighting system, there is no need for installation of fans or cooling ducts.
As this grow lights are available readily with plugs, no ballast is required for the initiation and regulation of the lights. Thus, there is no problem for ballast burning and/or replacement, which is so in case of fluorescent bulbs. LED grow lights are long-lasting; a superior quality may last for 10-12 years. Overall, LED grow lights are easier to maintain and cheaper than other lighting systems used for hydroponic gardening.

Are you trying to find a brand new way to garden? Are you curious about finding out more on the subject of how certain nutrients and vitamins could be utilized to enhance the look of your plants? If so, you’ll definitely want to find out more about hydroponics gardening. This style of gardening doesn’t require soil, and you can start the process in the comfort of your home.
Hydroponics gardening involves cultivating plants in a nutrient-enriched liquid. As the gardener, you’ll be able to regulate the balance of oxygen and nutrients that the plants will get. You will need to explore which plants grow satisfactorily in this sort of situation so your garden will thrive. Vegetables like peppers and cucumbers are likely to be excellent choices, and you can grow a variety of herbs by means of hydroponics gardening as well. This means you’re able to add your own special touches to your cuisine, and you’ll undeniably taste the improvement in terms of freshness.
To start out with hydroponics gardening, you’ll have to select a double walled pot made for hydroculture. You’ll also require a ceramic container or one which is produced from opaque glass. If you would like to show off one plant at a time, you can place it in a tinted glass vase or a jar that’s filled with ornamental marbles or stones. To secure the roots of the plants, you should use vermiculite. If you aren’t able to get hold of this at your neighborhood garden center, it is possible to secure the plant’s stems in a piece of thin plastic and let the roots dangle without restraint.
Hydroponics gardening requires that you provide your plants with generous amounts of oxygen. You can use a fish tank bubbler for smaller gardens, which will provide the suitable quantity of oxygen for all the plants within your garden. Oxygen is what keeps the plants healthy and gives them their rich color. Not surprisingly, you will require fertilizer as well. Make sure that you only select plants which are well suited to hydroponics. There are actually 13 fundamental nutrients which are required for your plants to flourish, so ask the employees at the garden center for further information. It’s also a good idea to purchase the apparatus that you’ll need to monitor the pH reading of your fertilizer solution; the levels shouldn’t be more than 6.0.
If you’re not sure which room in your home would be best for hydroponics gardening, you may want to convert your aquarium into a hydroponic garden. The fish will give nutrients for the plants, and the bubbler will give your plants the proper quantity of oxygen.
Lighting is a critical component of growing plants hydroponically. You will almost certainly need to supplement natural daylight with hydroponic lights. Many people choose to use a grow room, which comes complete with the lighting and other essentials your plants will need.

If you haven’t already started, now is the time to start your vegetable seeds for transplanting into the garden.
Some seeds are directly sown, and some can be grown either way. Others most definitely need be started inside.
Some examples of plants that can be started inside or out in the garden are broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, watermelon, and all kinds of herbs.
In the south, tomatoes and peppers can be done either way. In cooler climates, they need to be started inside.
It is easy enough to just buy your own plants.
But there are some reasons you may want to start your own.
Sometimes you just can’t find the type of plant you are looking for, but you can find the seeds.
One year I looked high and low for serrano pepper plants to put in my garden and never could find them. But I found some seeds. So, I just got those and started them at home. If you grow organic, those plants can be hard to find. Organic seeds are more common.
Another good reason is economics. Seeds are a lot cheaper than buying plants. Sure, when you figure out the cost of other supplies, you might think it isn’t. But you will get a lot of seeds in those packets and seeds will keep from year to year if stored properly
Also, you are growing it in the manner you want to. You control the type of growing matter or soil you use. You know what if any chemicals were used in starting you plants off.
When it comes to starting your seeds, there are so many options.
You can buy peat pots, which you just stick in the ground and they will biodegrade into the soil and act as a fertlizer of sorts. You will need to buy soil to add to the pots.
Another option is peat pellets. They are flat round disks made of organic matter. You add water to them and they expand. You don’t need soil for these. You also just set these into the ground.
You can also use regular plastic pots with soil in them. You do have to take them out of the pots so be careful with the roots.
You can also grow them in large flats. Just one long container you add soil too. You need to be careful separating all the plants and roots when it is time to transfer them into the ground.
The last way, is to make your own seedling pots. You make the seedling pots out of newspaper. You can buy forms for them, but you don’t really need to buy anything. We all have plenty of newspapers so here is a good way to use them. These too can just be planted directly into the ground.
No matter which way you choose, all the seedlings need to be set in a warm place and kept covered until they come up.
They will need light and a temperature of about 72. A little lower is OK, it just may take some seedlings longer to pop up.
You can buy heating mats for setting under the plants if you would like.
Starting your plants from seeds is pretty easy to do and doesn’t take much time at all. I find it pretty neat to watch them push up through the soil.

One of the best natural solutions to make your plants healthier is through the use of compos tea. Compost tea is the process by which you use compost to brew a liquid solution that you will then "feed" to your plants. Compost tea can be applied to vegetables, trees, bushes, flowers, or in short anything that you grow that you want to get healthier.
The first step is to get compost. You can buy compost from a local nursery or garden center but the better option is to make your own. You make compost from organic material. In other words grass, leaves twigs, and food waste to name a few.
You then take the compost and mix it with water. After about an hour of soaking you can use the compost enriched water on your plants and you will get excellent benefits, but if you really want to get the most out of your compost tea, you have to brew it.
To brew compost tea you simply add an air pump to pump in fresh oxygen into the water as well as one to two ounces of molasses. What you are doing is creating an environment where bacteria that live in the compost will thrive.
After brewing for a couple of days separate the compost from the liquid with a strainer such as cheese cloth or an old screen and you are all. Put the liquid in a watering can or sprayer and let your plants have it. It is the most natural type of fertilizer you can ever apply to your plants that no chemical can reproduce.
Compost tea introduces healthy minerals and nutrients into the soil as well as "good" bacteria that work hard in the underlying ecosystem to create an environment for the roots of your plants to thrive.
Compost tea has also shown to prevent many diseases found in plants due to the microbial population found in compost tea.
You should apply compost tea first thing in the morning and if you are putting it directly into the soil it is ok to apply during rainy conditions, however if you are applying it directly to leaves then you should wait for a dryer day.
Studies have shown it is best to use your compost tea within 4 to 6 hours after you brew it. Remember you have living organisms in that tea and having it sit around too long can kill them and render your tea useless. Besides you have been waiting 2 days to use it while it's been brewing.
As you can see compost tea has many benefits. Whether you are an avid vegetable, flower or shrub gardener, or are new to gardening altogether, then you should get to know how to brew compost tea, and start applying it to your gardens immediately.

If you are interested in growing your own herb garden, you have found a venture that can not only provide a great sense of reward, but one that you can be proud to share with friends and family. Herb gardens have been grown around the world for thousands of years to make spices, teas, medicines, and more. For those who are just starting out, growing an herb garden for the first time may seem a tad complex. There are a few details you have to keep in mind, which can determine whether or not you will be able to harvest any of the seeds you plant. Fortunately, not only does herb gardening get easier with experience, but mastering the details the first time can help save a lot of frustration down the road, and knowing how to start an herb garden in the first place goes a long way to your success.
1.) Location, location, location. If we are going outdoors, location is the key factor in determining the success of your herb garden. What is the climate like in your region? Does it rain often in your area? This of course also applies on a much smaller scale; does your selected space get a fair share of direct sunlight throughout the day, or is the light filtered through overhead trees? Some herbs prefer shaded areas, whereas others need a healthy supply of direct sunlight to survive. You will also need to take note of soil moisture, as some herbs prefer more moist settings than others. If you are not quite sure which herbs you’d like to plant, take note of potential areas around your yard that have various levels of sunlight through the day. Make sure you allow ample space in each potential plot in order to allow your herbs to grow.
2.)Know how much time you are willing to invest. First and foremost, are you truly committed to start an herb garden? You must be willing to put in the time and the effort to make sure your garden is lively and healthy. Moreover, some herbs require a little more maintenance than others. You will need to trim any dead leaves and weed your herb garden on a regular basis to keep the weeds from choking your plants. Be careful not to overwater, as this will cause any seedlings to become smothered.
3.)Which herbs appeal the most to you? This may seem like an obvious one, but truth be told many people are not quite sure what they’d like to grow when they are first starting out. What is the purpose of your herb garden? Growing medicinal herbs can be quite useful, as it becomes that much easier to turn to natural remedies for any ailments. Instead of buying bottles from the store, you can open up a leaf of your homegrown aloe vera plant. You may also like to brew soothing chamomile tea from the chamomile grown in your yard, or experiment with growing other medicinal herbs such as fevervew, ginseng and Echinacea. On the other hand, herbs are a great way to spice up your food – imagine adding your homegrown rosemary, oregano or basil to your food the next time you’re cooking. Whatever purpose you decide, try to go for herbs that you not only like, but ones you will use.
If you don’t succeed on your first attempt, don’t give up – it takes some getting to know the herbs you are planting in order to grow them in a lather, rinse, repeat fashion. Remember to be patient, learn what is most important in how to plant an herb garden, and practice makes perfect!
Jeff Stone is a long time lover of herbs and horticulture who has been growing his own for over 30 years. Oxygenating plants are very important for the pond to flourish with wildlife. They assist to hold the oxygen levels up in the pond which is obviously essential for all alive creatures to stay alive within your pond. We have mentioned several plants in my previous articles, but listed here are a few more that can assist you on your way.
Hottonia (Water Violet)Hottonia palustris is one of the few flowering Oxygenators. The bright green foliage beneath the surface is finely divided into feathery leaves whilst in early summer the flower stalks become visible. These branching stems grow about 9 inches above the water level and bear whorls of pale lavender flowers. In autumn the foliage dies down before the plant overwinters in dormant buds. It is not an easy plant to establish and also it does need still, soft water.
H. inflata is really a white-flowering species. Take cuttings in the summer.
Lagarosiphon (Goldfish Weed)Lagarosiphon major is the correct name for this plant but is often sold as Elodia crispa. The long stems bear tightly packed whorls of curled leaves and it is generally sold for aquaria. It is really a really good Oxygenator which is easy to establish outdoors, it can be invasive and get out of hand. Some specialists recommend Lagarosiphon provided the pond is small enough for your plants to be reached for thinning or removal, but others advise against it under all circumstances. Lagarosiphon tends to deteriorate with age so replace with cuttings every few years.
Myriophllum (Water Milfoil)The Water Milfoils have long trailing stems which are clothed with very fine feathery foliage. This is really a recommended Oxygenator as it is effective and suitable for a tiny pond. The leaves can either be green or brownish, depending on the species and many are borne above the surface. Myriophyllum spicatum produces red-pettled flowers about 1 inch above the water level – another admired species is N. verticillatum. Take cuttings in spring or summer. Remember that some species will not be hardy, so don’t forget to check before buying.
Potamogeton (Pondweed)Potamogeton crispus (Curled Pondweed) is really a large-leaved Oxygenator which is quite restrained and will not become an invasive weed. The long wiry stems bear strap-like reddish leaves which are wavy edged and look rather like seaweed. In poor light the foliage remains green as opposed to turning red or bronze. Small pinky-white flowers appear just above the water in early summer. it is happier in moving water instead of a still pond. P. densus is definitely an unusual and hard to find species. Take cuttings in sprig or summer.
Ranunculus (Water Buttercup)Ranunculus aquatilis has two kinds of foliage. Below the waterline the green leaves are finely cut into hair-like segments, on the surface float the Clover-like leaves. In early summer, branched stems carrying white Buttercups appear. These flowers are held about 1 inch above the surface of the water. After flowering the plant dies back. A good choice for ponds of all sizes as it does not get out of hand and flowering Oxygenators are uncommon. Take cuttings in spring or summer.
